I literally read this for nostalgic purposes

I think the book was a good way to learn more about not only dog behaviour but also about a lot of other things regarding dogs. The language was easy to understand and if she used important vocabulary, she always explained the word. With a lot of additional pictures it was even easier to understand and thought me a lot of new things about dogs and their behaviour.

Quick read. I like Stilwell's emphasis on positive training. Interesting information (but nothing new or groundbreaking) and good tips for understanding dog behavior. This book will be useful for when I someday have a dog of my own.

An interesting read--some reminders and a fair amount of new food for thought. I'm spending a lot of time with dogs while volunteering at a pet shelter and having this info will be super valuable as I observe and interact with the pups.
informative fast-paced

The short easy-to-read chapters cover everything from wanting to play to the confusion of old age, and the overall strength of the book is in its breadth, not its depth. This is great because it gives readers a basic overview and points them in the right direction without overwhelming them. For instance, the book mentions that if your dog is destructive while you're not home it's probably because of separation anxiety, so punishing the dog won't help and will likely be harmful. She doesn't say what you should do to help the problem, but readers would at least know that what they're dealing with is separation anxiety and they can seek out information about that. I was grateful the author didn't try to cover every problem in detail. As it was, I skimmed the parts in the early chapters that covered various neurotransmitters and whatnot.

All in all I found this book pretty informative and useful without being a slog or including way too much scientific information that isn't practical. I borrowed it from the library, but it seems like a great general guide to have on hand.

interesting trivia and facts about human's best friend

I really enjoyed everything about this book. First and foremost, there are adorable pictures of dogs, puppies, and other canine friends throughtout. I am a big dog person and I loved looking at them.

The second part of this book was that it was written in an easy to read, but informative way. I really appreciated the opportunity to learn more about what different things that dogs do mean. For example, what does it mean when your dog is wagging his tail. I enjoyed learning how the animals 'communicate."

I would recommend this book for those who haven't spent much time around dogs or for those thinking about getting/adopting a dog. There is a lot of good insight here. It was also worth the read for those of us who have had a dog. Thank you for the opportunity to review this book.
