This book wasn’t for me in the end. I went into it with hopes that it would be a book that ends with rejection of fatphobia or something along those lines and that’s not what happened. I guess that’s on my expectations and I need to be more careful when choosing memoirs relating to bodies and food. I have a hard time when a story of struggling with one’s body ends in “well I lost a lot of weight and even though I’m not where I’d once hoped to end up body wise I am not that fat so it’s fine” because that’s not the case for many and justifying being ok with one’s body because its “not that fat” is fatphobic and frustrating to me.
While I agree with the author that it’s fine for people to want to change their bodies and that it’s an individual choice, as someone in eating disorder recovery at least partially caused by a society struggling with disordered eating I get really frustrated when reading stories that end the way diet culture wants them to.

I don’t feel like I can necessarily rate this book because I’m very much so not the audience and probably should have dnf’ed for that reason.

That being said, I enjoyed the author’s writing style and learning about the author’s culture which kept me reading to the end.

4.5 Stars. Although, she frustrated me sometimes, I loved this book. I especially loved the recipes at the end. She didn't just put the recipes in there, she explained them. I loved the travel to Pakistan, and now I'm seeking out Pakistani restaurants in Houston. I admit that I have seen them, but not been.
