I'm confused.
The book started with an interesting plot but it got boring really fast. It didn't give me the hype that I thought it would.
Anyway, I enjoyed reading it and would grab the sequel if i get a chance.
My Rating - 4/5

Great premise, meh execution. Underdeveloped characters, twists are good but a little too left fieldy.

Very slow...didn't get into it until the last few chapters.
This book started out as dystopian/apocalypse, went fast into cannibalism, and then into an even weirder dimension of family horror. As much as it unsettled me, I couldn't put it down, and am on to the second book because things just don't seem to add up and I need TO KNOW.
I selected this book by going to amazon.com and looking for books bought by people who bought the Allegra Goodman book I'd just finished. This book was on the list and I read the description and decided to give it a try.
The book is narrated by Eli, a fifteen year old boy who is the son of a billionaire obsessed with nuclear war and even goes so far as to build a compound three stories underground to protect his family should there ever be unclean war. One night, when Eli is eight and the family is in vacation, it happens and the family races to the compound and are locked inside. The live there, is discordant politeness, until Eli starts asking questions.
I loved the premise of the story. It was interesting. But, it just wasn't written that well. Tons of page space would be given over to descriptions and action scenes would be rushed which tends to make them feel anti-climactic and, naturally, the entire story wrapped up in a 10 page epilogue.
I wouldn't pay for this one. Better checked out from the library.

A well written book where the set up is good and the payoff is good.
