It’s been a while since I read the first three books in this series and it took me a bit to get back into the story. I enjoyed this book nonetheless and the next one is already on my list.

My take on this book: THIS REVIEW MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS! IF YOU HAVE NOT READ THE BOOK READ AT YOUR OWN RISK!!!

I liked this book a lot until the end then I disliked it. Okay not completely disliked it. I just didn't like the ending of it. June and Oscar finally get together and then they aren't together because of what ends up happening at the end of the book. I know that Miss Tonya Kappes is trying to keep us on our toes but I mean why did she had to have Oscar get his magic taken away? It's just so unfair for both June and Oscar's aunt.

What's even more worse is that someone wants June to be gone and sadly I don't remember who it was but it was definitely a good surprise in my head on who wanted her gone. We also learned that genies are real and that you should be careful on what you wish for with those guys around. This book was a good one and we met the lady's that are apart of the council that oversees all magical people. June also had some good character development going on but not by much. Another good book from Tonya Kappes.

Another series bites the dust for me. I can't go on with this one. Too much poor writing and editing, and the characters are annoying.

June is still in Whispering Falls, and is now the village president (what? Suspend disbelief with me). June butts her nose in where it doesn't belong, is falsely accused, and shenanigans ensue. Just like book 1. Just like book 2. And the author decides to hit a tremendous reset button three books in and I have no idea why.

Rumor has it that the series rights itself by book 5, but I won't be around to find out. Sorry, Whispering Falls, but I am not a fan of quirky for quirky's sake when it isn't accompanied by solid writing.
P.S. Get an editor, for crying out loud. "Hit the breaks" is not acceptable.

I'll be honest, if the author of this book wasn't sweet as Kentucky tea, I'd only leave 2 stars & feel justified in doing so. This book was my least favorite in the series so far. There were so many typos and structural errors that it was extremely distracting. I kept thinking I had misread lines, rereading them and still being just as confused. The book was disjointed, very little continuity and the absolute worst reason for a murder that I've ever come across. Some important topics that should have been given more time and importance were glossed over where as other events could have been left out completely as they didn't add anything to the story, just muddled everything up farther.

Also, can we all agree that "teletransport" is not ok? It's teleport. Everyone knows that, even those who didn't grow up with an annoying little brother that made them watch Star Trek. And it's not necessary to refer to the university as "Hidden Hall A Spiritualist University" every time it's mentioned, Hidden Hall is sufficient.

Now for the good stuff: the book is not without good qualities. Tonya Kappes is excellent at imagery. The world she has created is, well, magical. She makes me want to run through the woods and find Eloise's tree house and to find this magical town so I can see all the shops. The author does an excellent job of creating her world and most of the character development is strong. It's just disappointing that so much of the good about this work is negated by the negatives noted above.

Will I read more of this series? I'd say there's a 95% chance that I will. As I said from the beginning, this author is as sweet as they come. She genuinely loves her fans and interacts with them regularly. Yesterday on her FB page she posted a picture of her writing post cards for her fans while she was on vacation at the beach. I don't know any others that would do that. So, while the writing may not be as strong as I'd like it to be, I'm more than willing to keep reading, hoping to see some improvements and to see what happens in this crazy little village.

Tonya Kappes has quickly turned into an author I look forward to reading. Can't wait to read more about Whispering Falls!

Another mystery where June finds herself suspect number one and breaks a bunch of rules to clear her name and find the real killer. This is when Oscar willingly sacrifices his memory of being a spiritualist and his powers and becomes a hawt but useless character that June moons over. Her new found powers she thinks come from being named the new village president really come from a djinn found in a bottle in her shop. And those powers leave her at the end of the book; I think this was a good thing, since her true powers of intuition she hardly ever heeds, so more powers would be a waste.

Why have world building rules when your MC is just going to break every one in every book? *sigh* I did like the fact that the author made use of Hostess real-life shut down as part of the plot line.

Goes without saying with this series, the book needed a copy editor.
