John Oliver and Last Week Tonight published this cute little story about Vice President Mike Pence's actual real-life rabbit falling in love with another boy bunny. Since Pence is a huge homophobe and all-round horrible human, I felt like I should support this magnificent effort to troll him :). I listened to the 7-minute audiobook, excellently narrated by Jim Parsons and a host of other celebrities. Also, all proceeds go to charity.

I love that this was created from snark and yet it manages to do a great job with its message that Love is Love. It holds up as a children's book, and all the proceeds are donated to the Trevor Project and AIDS United.
lighthearted fast-paced

I'm really glad that this book is actually good and not just political pandering (a I have experienced with other children's books). My plan is to read both books so I have an informed opinion here, but I really enjoyed the art, structure, and story of Marlon Bundo. Even without the underlying information and the jabs at political figures for parents and adults to understand, I think the story of Marlon and Wesley was well thought out and a good way to introduce children to the concept of homosexuality. 4/5 stars

Okay, this was pretty adorable! I expected it to mostly be silly and tongue-in-cheek, but it actually seemed like it would be fun as a read aloud with kids, and a good conversation-starter. I liked that the presented solution to the problem was civic engagement! Teach children the importance of voting! The ending was quite touching: "Stink bugs are temporary. Love is forever." <3

****100% of the proceeds are being donated to The Trevor Project and AIDS United. It also pisses off Pence. BUY IT!!!

Great book, cute illustrations. I bought both the audiobook and the hardcover a couple days after they were announced on John Oliver's show and would have been happy as pie if it were just an average book slapped together, because fuck Pence.

Gotta say I love that one of the most powerful White Nationalists, anti-LGBT advocates in the world named his bunny after a bisexual icon.

I digress.

Get the audiobook, get the book, read along. And remember that love is love, no matter what those stinkbugs say.

This book caught my attention as it is one of many books currently being banned or challenged for removal in American school districts and libraries. While many of the affected books tackle their subject matter without regard to the theatre of American electoral politics, this one is deeply intertwined with the Vice Presidency of Mike Pence. You see, Marlon Bundo is a real rabbit, and he does belong to Pence, a politician notable in part for his outspoken anti-LGBTQ beliefs. “A Day In The Life of Marlon Bundo” exists as the result of the left-wing satire outlet “Last Week Tonight” and their opposition to those beliefs. What better way to oppose bigotry than to... *checks notes* make the rabbit gay! The rabbit is gay now, folks.

Despite the emnity behind the book’s conception, A Day In The Life of Marlon Bundo is a standard, cheery, affirming and innocent children’s story about a boy rabbit who falls in love with another boy rabbit. They get married and along the way dethrone a Stink Bug who tries to tell them they can’t. The book avoids calling out Pence directly for his views, though eagle-eyed readers might notice certain similarities in likeness between the (not illustrated) Pence and the Head Stink Bug In Charge.

All and all, this is a very sweet book with nothing in the way of controversial or inappropriate content despite the political context surrounding it, and it seems Charlotte Pence (Mike’s daughter and the writer of her own book about Marlon) has taken “A Day In The Life…” and its message in stride. Let us pray for a future where Marlon’s love is affirmed by all.

Pros: Nice illustrations, sweet story

Cons: At one point a television news reporter is identified as “Bunderson Cooper” and had I been holding a paper copy of the book at the time rather than my tablet I might have burned the book myself honestly

Mean spirited

4.5 stars | "That's because my grandpa is the Vice President. His name is Mike Pence. But this story is not going to be about him. Because he isn't very fun."

LOL! Beautiful artwork, beautiful message about tolerance, love and difference. Love is love <3

A sweet book with a great message about tolerence and being different. The illustrations are also so cute!
