Overall, quick, easy and a fast paced read. I can see why Freida McFadden has become such a popular author, this is the second book of hers I’ve read. Both have left a strong impression on me. Great for book club choices.

As the first Frieda McFadden book that I’ve ever read, I didn’t quite know what I was getting myself into for.
I spent the first 150 pages strongly disliking the fmc. It bugged me to high heaven that she hadn’t figured out that EJ was her husband, and I purely did not understand how she hadn’t run for the hills when she heard everything happening in this deserted house she had found herself in.
I strongly disliked her husband for deceiving her and putting her through hell, not to mention very quickly using and abusing the facilities in the house of a suspected dead woman. Like, are you crazy?!
I had heard that McFadden was known for her plot twists. I had conjured up the storyline and how I thought the plot twists would go.
I was certain of 3 things: 1. Dr Adrienne Hale was either alive in the house/in hiding. 2. If she wasn’t alive, Ethan had killed her. 3. Tricia (fmc) was the dumbest, most naive girl I had ever read.
Frieda McFadden’s plot twists made me sit straighter, place the book down and stare into a space in front of me. I had to take a break to process the twist.
The fact that all three of the things I was certain of, were all completely wrong, proves how much I enjoyed this book.
The final 150 or so pages I sat in disbelief and shock and placing the book down after I had finished actually gave me a satisfied feeling.
Incredible writing. I was unable to put the book down and found myself thinking about the storyline went I wasn’t reading.
4⭐️ and a new author obsession. The first Freida McFadden book I have read, but definitely not the last.
