This was a pretty good book! I must say I do prefer Coelho's "The Alchemist" simply because I tend to get more involved in books with any elements of an overarching storyline - but this is more of a spiritual rule/guidebook. Think of something along the lines of The Alchemist meets
Machiavelli's The Prince meets Sun Tzu's The Art of War.

Some of Coelho's metaphors make little sense to me personally, but that could be a little quirk of translating Portuguese to English, or those particular turns of phrase simply weren't made to resonate in my soul - I'm not sure.

But I have highlighted, like, roughly 20 pages in "Warrior of Light" because those particular pages DID speak to me. I think anyone could relate to and resonate with at least one page in this book. The mid-low score was simply because this wasn't a majorly revelatory read for me - and it didn't really stoke any flames spiritually or emotionally for me.

I know that sounds harsh, but I still enjoyed this book - 2.5 stars is nothing to sneer at, after all! It's just that for these kinds of inspirational spiritual guide books, I have ridiculously high standards.

A gorgeous companion to The Alchemist (the entire text of the book was blue!). It was essentially composed of passages from a young man’s journal as he learns and discovers what a Warrior of the Light is. Each passage was barely a page long, but each one was filled with interesting and thought-provoking ideas.

“He knows that without inspiration and experience, no amount of training will help him.” (3)

“A Warrior of the Light knows what he wants. And he has no need to waste time on explanations." (4)

“Victors never make the same mistake twice. That is why the Warrior only risks his heart for something worthwhile.” (8)

“In these words lies all his power: He chose the path along which he is walking and so has no complaints.” (16)

“In order to have faith in his own path, he does not need to prove that someone else’s path is wrong.” (17)

“If he waits for the ideal moment, he will never set off. The Warrior requires a touch of madness to take the next step.” (18)

“A Warrior of the Light sometimes thinks: “If I do not do something, it will not be done.’ It is not quite like that: He must act, but he must allow room for the Universe to act too.” (28)

“Although he may have an objective, the path that leads to that objective is not always as he imagined it would be.” (32)

“One can take a thousand steps in safety, but a single step too many can put an end to everything. The Warrior stops before he destroys himself.” (57)

“Sometimes he acts without even knowing that he is doing so, he saves someone without even knowing he is saving them, he suffers without even knowing why he is sad. Yes, life is insane. But the great wisdom of the Warrior lies in choosing his insanity wisely.” (95)

“He knows that no one wins all the time and he knows how to distinguish his successes from his failures.” (101)

“A Warrior of the Light has no regrets, because regrets can kill. He humbles himself and undoes the wrong he has done.” (114)

“The cup of suffering is not the same size for everyone.” (117)

“‘You, however, are sad. That proves that your soul is still alive.’” (122)

“He knows that the fool who gives advice about someone else’s garden is not tending to his own plants.” (129)

“If he thinks only of the goal, he will not be able to pay attention to the signs along the way. If he concentrates only on one question, he will miss the answers that are there beside him. That is why the Warrior submits.” (131)
