“Hope is for fools . . . Not long ago I hoped for everything, and look what has become of me, and those I loved.”
ok so this book was honestly going to be a 2.5 star book, but the last 50 pages redeemed it for me. idk what happened but this book was so fricken boring. up until this point the series felt very character-driven. like yea there was some plot, but we were very focused on the relationships in the book. if you've read this, you know that something happens at the end of the second book, and it really pivots the storyline. in this book, the plot, in theory, was clever but i felt dragged out and we stopped learning things about the characters. certain people aren't in the same spot anymore and one of my favorite characters makes some questionable decisions.. (*cough cough* jules). i will say that it is nice to have someone to rant to that feels the same way so it does make for a great buddy read (evie <3)

My only problem was Katharine, tbh. Liking the three sisters in the past books made me like all the PoVs, but this time I just couldn't stand her. Absolutely unlikable and with no redeeming qualities, I wanted to scream every time I got to one of her chapters.
Also how the FUCK do mainlanders not know of the island??? Where did they think Joseph came from, where did they think Billy went, what would they think if Billy had to stay as king consort??????? Wtf
I loved loved loved the mist and the previous queens. The eerie worldbuilding in this series is one of my favorites ever, it never fails to give me that uneasy feeling.
Arsinoe is still my fav queen btw

This was by far my favorite book so far. There are so many moving parts. Blake does an amazing job of fitting so much in, without rushing the pacing. Please read this series.
