This was my first Emily Henry book and I can officially say I’m hooked. I absolutely loved both the FMC and MMC in this book. This only thing holding back that 1/2 star is I personally dislike the miscommunication aspect of a novel. So every single time January walked away and Gus stayed quiet just allowing each other to assume the worst I thought, “This whole thing could’ve been avoided if they would’ve just talked to each other.” Still a great read with a HEA and the perfect amount of steamy goodness, funny moments, wittiness, and emotion. 🫶

For now, the alcoholism/coping with alcohol is just too tough for me as someone who is sober. Maybe I’ll try this again another time

Still don’t understand why Gus and January were so obsessed with each other other than being hot, and their lack of communication just made me mad during the middle 3rd of the book. Overall good though, just not a very likeable protag

Super fun brain off book that still manages to say something important. Highly recommend!

Yeesh. I was excited to see what the hype was about for Emily Henry. This is probably the worst start for me.

I found January as a protagonist to be insufferable and unrootable. I understand her dad dying and his betrayal was the domino that caused her life to spiral and leave her in a very fraught emotional state. Still, she makes assumptions out of everyone, from Gus to Sonya to her mom to her dad.
This book is simply “misunderstanding the book” because January cannot communicate or listen to anyone!

As a romance, it was okay on the surface. I like Gus and January's banter well enough, but a lot of the conflict stems from January's inability to talk to Gus and communicate all her resentment and concerns with him. It's annoying and even if I didn't connect with Gus, I wanted to tell him to leave her. There was no romantic chemistry to me at all.

The plot had potential, but it felt squandered. The idea of two authors swapping novels was cool. I liked the research of cults. Still, it was just something the characters did on the side. It's trying to be both women's lit and romance and fails at both since it couldn't pick a focus. It swung from carefree romance to heavy topics.

In the end, I was close to DNF-ing this book. However, it's only because I only had an hour left in the book that I powered through. It was such a slog and I skimmed towards the end because I really disliked being in January's POV. I am still willing to give Emily Henry one more chance since I see bones of a book I would like, but it's on thin ice.
