I like that LeGuinn finally addressed the topic of women in Earthsea (previous books are extremely men-centered), but wish there was more emphasis put on the unique power of the "powerless" rather than giving a few, most powerful women, the same types of powers as the men.

The story is about a mother and daughter and them dealing with trauma, elements which one rarely comes across in a high fantasy book. Of course, there is magic and dragons, but the crux of the book is about the child who suffered. The book still does not tie everything together as it has a sort of an open ending. The previous book was a good place to stop the series, as it had a finale which was grand enough for a trilogy but this is not.
