I must say I expected far worse from this book (as in: I expected it to creep my out way more than it actually did) The story is good but it didn’t knock me out of my socks. The end leaves you questioning everything you thought you knew about so far (before that, it seemed pretty predictable to me) so I‘ll give it that but for me, it’s not the kind of book that will leave you restless and unable to sleep (which is kind of what I had expected).
Overall, I liked the turns it took and the elements of the story are truly my thing but I wish they would‘ve been done a bit differently. (The smut is really good though) 
I did miss some (POC, queer, etc.) representation in there and I strongly disliked how in one of the first chapters, choking kinks were talked about as being perverse (I get when certain kinks are just simply not it for someone but to degrade (consensual) sexual preferences in such a way is not okay in my opinion).

This book very much reads like a classic Gothic Romance and in fact is reminiscent of Victoria Holt’s 1960s book, Mistress of Mellyn.  This is a fast, enjoyable read with a mildly frustrating protagonist.
