this book was a very uncomfortable and disturbing read. i don't even know what i just read. but from a writer's point of view story, it was genius. yet, i'm still pretty disturbed by the recollections of events in this book. and i'm not scared easily...

Did I enjoy this book? No, not really - it was disturbing as all get out.
Did I feel like I had to keep reading to find out what happened next? Yes, absolutely.
Would I recommend it to someone? Oh man, I don't know, probably not??
Was it well written? Yes, I think so.
If you watch Criminal Minds or a True Crime podcast junkie then maybe you'd be fine with this, I guess?? I mean, the ending was WILD and for that alone I would recommend it to somebody but you have to be able to go through the whole book before you get to the end??? And seriously, check the Content Warnings - each one is pretty graphic in the book (but easily skippable - you'll know when you're at those parts as you get there).
Ultimately, just, wow. That was wild. I'm glad it got me reaching for a book instead of the remote (hello #bookslump) but also just WOW. That was ... yeah. Wow. And like, it could go either way??? So, I mean? Wow.

Colleen Hoover did it again. Made me jump into a book with my eyes closed, not knowing anything about it but immensely enjoying the ride. I mean, that FIRST line just gripped me from the start.
I love how this was so eerie and disturbing, without being scary. Following both Lowen’s story and Verity’s manuscript was easy because there was so much drama. Verity really disturbed me and I could feel myself getting paranoid like Lowen was. This story really throws you off track and the plot twist completely got me by surprise.
Going to be recommending this book to everyone now!
