The twist really is big. It was one I did not see coming from a mile away though there was a good build-up to it. Some of the smaller twists I did see coming or had figured out, but colleen got me in those last few pages.

I now see why CH is so popular. Her writing had me hooked instantly. I haven’t finished a book this quick in years. The ending tho…

This book is really well written, as all Colleen Hoover books are, but it’s really way too dark for my taste. Really fast paced which is great but would not recommend reading at night.

3.5 ⭐️
My first thought after this finishing this book was ‘what did I just read?’. This is my first Colleen Hoover novel and I went into it blind expecting a dark romance, based on romance being her speciality, but found it to be more of a psychological thriller and more messed up than I had first anticipated with shocking admission after shocking admission spilling out of the pages. While I did enjoy reading this rollercoaster of a book and experiencing all the shock and emotion that comes with not knowing what to expect, I highly recommend looking at the trigger warnings before delving in because it is at times disturbing and sickening and will not suit everyone.

This book dragged me in, I loved having  the manuscript dispersed throughout the present day story as these chapters are what got me hooked, kept me intrigued and picked up the pace for me after I felt pretty neutral and unmoved by the start of the book. They set the book off into the creepy and crazy and eerie story it becomes and from that point I could hardly put it down. I needed to know what would be revealed next.  Colleen’s writing is so vivid I felt like I was right there with Verity and Lowen and Jeremy, experiencing and feeling with them, constantly looking over my shoulder, feeling uncomfortable and scared and having a a sense of impending anxiousness at what would come next, because it all felt so real. I was constantly questioning who I should be believe and feel for and who I should be angry at. However, I will say that at times the story lacked relationship building between Lowen and Jeremy and Verity and Jeremy beyond the excessive amount sex scenes and I feel as if they knew each other on a more personal level the ending would have been different and had more depth.

To say I was conflicted at the end of this book is an understatement. What I enjoyed most about the ending is the mind game of it all and that it left so much for the reader to unpack and unravel, pick apart and question, even after the final page. But while be thinking about this book for days and weeks now that I’ve finished it, trying to understand what I believe, I also felt underwhelmed and let down by the ending, it didn’t have me gasping or gripping my seat in anticipation like the rest of the novel had. It felt unfinished, and in parts, too convenient a way for this wild and often messy journey to end.

Overall, I enjoyed being immersed in the storyline of Verity and the writing of Colleen Hoover enough that I’m interested in giving some of her other books a go!
