This was okay, but I didn't think it was great. The writing wasn't bad but I just wasn't hooked or anything. I wanted to know what would happen, but was also bored.

The end was kind of depressing but at the same time, it was the characters I didn't like who died. I almost liked both the father and the princess at some points, the father more at the beginning. By the end I couldn't stand him and thought she was okay, not horrible. I felt a little sorry for her death, at least.

I enjoyed learning how the characters lives turned out at the end, too.

Ah, the Russians. More like 3.5. Just what I needed for a short read to get me to my 100th book of the year!

I loved the writing. David Troughtons’ narration was great. The plot was predictable. The story felt like a maybe. The writing was expressive and simple. The whole theme about vitality was not very surprising, but it is something I should inculcate in my life. I couldn’t relate to the way the main character loved, but I did understand why he was the way he was. I really liked Dr. Lushin for his straightforwardness.

What has come of it all – of all that I had hoped for? And now when the shades of evening are beginning to close in upon my life, what have I left that is fresher, dearer to me, than the memories of that brief storm that came and went so swiftly one morning in the spring?

I devoured this.
