This was incredibly depressing. Somehow, I had been under the impression that Chinese patriarchy was a little more passive than this, but nope! The activists described/interviewed here are giving up comfort and stability to push back against active repression, persecution, and harassment by the Chinese government. The things they went through during and after their imprisonment are not things I'm soon likely to forget. Whether or not you work on Women, Gender, Sexuality & History like I do, you should read this book.
