I really enjoyed this book! I was surprised by how realistic the story seemed. I didn't entirely enjoy the style of writing- especially at the end of the story, but I can't say that it really detracted from the overall book. I will have to watch the movie and see how they compare.

Book + movie = amazing, highly immersive experience.

First book of the year down!

I had a lot of fun reading this one. While I had some “spoilers” from popular culture and references made in other media, the book is about more than some AI getting in Dave’s way.

I have no idea whether the images I imagined while reading this book were what Clarke was hoping to elicit but he does his best to take you on a psychedelic trip towards the end.

Its always really fun seeing what sci-fi authors guess about the future and what they get right/wrong. The quotes about overpopulation, AI, and mass news media are great in that there’s always something to draw parallels to.

Thematically, I’m not quite sure what to narrow down on. There’s certainly commentary on our symbiotic relationship with technology and the evolution of human biology (while we’ve changed so much everything still comes down to survival) but I believe this is all secondary to Clarke’s attempt to send you on a trip to space from the comfort of your couch.

Good start to the year, definitely caused some sleepless nights that I regretted at work the next day. I do wish it had gone a bit further philosophically.

This is a great book to read if you want to try some sci-fi. You'll get a lot of cultural references that the rest of us nerds are spouting. Daisy, daisy...
