When I was a kid, up through high school, Arthur C. Clarke was my favorite author, and although I'd say that [b:Childhood’s End|414999|Childhood’s End|Arthur C. True, the novel was written along with the screenplay of the film, but the source is a short story called The Sentinal written by Clarke himself. He was a visionary of hard sci-fi, stretching the limits of the imagination while still remaining within the limits of scientific plausibility. Even the novels he co-authored later in life were good, and I have a feeling it was mostly his ideas that formed the basis of them. In any case, he lived long and prospered, and he was important to my education in the sciences, so I owe him a lot :)

a book that starts from the beginnings of time and ends with godhood. we see how we are truly infants in the sense of cosmic scale and it had me existential with a lot of thoughts about our existence.
it had some weak points and some scenes were hard to imagine so I dropped a star, but this is a book with a five star premise and the introduction is the most amazing piece of story ever writteb

I’m getting real nervous about this AI business since it seems like Sci fi has been foreshadowing our future for a while now. I love that this came from 1968. The 50+ year old Sci fi laid a great foundation for many of our current day authors. I’m impressed with the research that must have gone into this especially pre-instant search result internet availability. Can one person enjoy all the great space books with there being so many?
