'But the barriers of distance are crumbling; one day we shall meet our equals, or our masters, among the stars.'
This is good science fiction, despite its age. Similarly to Contact, the first three quarters of this book were amazing, but the ending isn't quite so polished.

Really enjoyed the additional insight into what was going on in the film story. From the initial pre-human beginning to the surreal ending, the book has lots of moments that elucidate what otherwise was confusing to me in the film. Recommended to fans of the film.

I have never read any sci fi (unless Jurassic Park counts) so this was my first time reading any.
I had it on kindle some months and picked it up on audible yesterday during a sale. Having no book on the go I thought I would give it a go.
What a very interesting and scary read, scary not in terms of horror but in terms of what may be out there. It was very eye opening and I can see why people think so highly of it. I can imagine the impact it would have had at the time and how it inspired people in their interests of space and the cosmos.
It was a great read and superb from start to finish, I would have liked a bit more depth in the characters.
The ending I need to read again to understand it properly. I will for sure check out the film in coming weeks.
A great read, if you're going to start reading sci fi, no better place than starting at the top.
4.5 rounded up.

Sometimes the book exceeds the movie. For some reason I found the story much more cohesive in the book than in the movie. I must add it’s been a while since I watched the movie but I remember it being a bit boring.
There’s nothing boring about this book!

Excellent bouquin de science fiction ... contient des différences avec le film, mais ça n'est pas important.
Ce n'est que le premier d'une tétralogie, mais il peut se suffire à lui même.
