Plot or Character Driven: Plot

I thoroughly enjoyed 2001 - a neat little SciFi novel that warrants its reputation. I actually have never seen the film so am in a relatively unique position to comment purely on the writing and story, but I must say it did not disappoint.

I found the simplicity of the story with a single ship in the depths of space very appealing as it stripped back the scenario to its rawest form - the emptiness of space added to the tension and mystery of the story without the need for any side stories. The loneliness experienced by the characters is palpable.

I also enjoyed the aspect

erm well alright then

Excellent sci-fi read, I can see why its a classic. Love how it makes you think about the different stages of intelligence in the universe, but how we may fit into that.

A good read, a solid 4

As a bad thing, i can say that the characters are pretty much name holders... There is not much characterization
The writing style didn't fill my eye... But my traslation is probably to blame (i read it in Spanish)
The ending is good in a way, but i couldn't understand lots of it haha, maybe i have to re read it with a more awaken mind

The good, it is an entertaining reading since the beginning, despite not being action packed or anything, you always want to read... "Just one more chapter" (wink wink)
As sci fi usually does, this books propose you to think... What is our(humankind) place in the universe? Are we advanced as as species or just kids? What would go through our mind, or what would we do if we learn there are other intelligent beings around? Maybe even more intelligent/advanced than us?
Also, how a small "push" in an evolution "chain" could change things

It is though, a bit weird, that a futuristic book is set 20 years ago xD
A tottaly worthy sci fi classic
