This did what it needed to do but it’s definitely not a book that I’ll be thinking of for days on end. I liked the premise and appreciated how it was carried out through the book. I also thought that the relationship Ravenna had with her family was really nice to see although I do feel like that storyline was cut a bit short. My main issue with this book is that I felt like it never really got going. There was a lot of chemistry between the characters and it took a solid 60% of the way in for them to start talking to each other regularly. I did like the revenge plot but again I thought the backstory to that plot was cut short and I would’ve love to have seen it fleshed out a bit more. I also thought the writing style itself was really chunky and didn’t read like a concise story. So again nothing groundbreaking but I was able to read this insanely quickly so a good time while it happened.

I expected a bit more from this book, but only because I think the bodyguard trope has such a big potential for a tension build-up between the characters, and I didn’t feel much of it in this book.
Don’t get me wrong, they don’t immediately like each other and start any sort of intimate interaction until like halfway through it. I just don’t think him being her bodyguard was used to its full potential. They’re still very sweet together, I just had a harder time connecting to either of them.

Alessando is a bodyguard sent to watch over a Capo and his wife Ravenna. The issue? He has vowed to get revenge on the man who killed his wife eight years ago, the very same Capo. His plan? Kill Ravenna and make him watch. Ravenna has been forced into an abusive marriage as payment for a debt her brother racks up. As she tries to escape she grows closer to Alessandro and farther from her goal. This was great! Very good romance and an actual plot! The only issue is that its a little fast and convenient.
