This was a nice start of the new series featuring Jack, enjoyed the British humour. However the book felt average and predictable at times.

Jack Morgan is officially my favorite Morgan—sorry Jon. I started this book thinking I’m just here for a quick hockey romance fix and ended up completely obsessed. Jack is a rookie in the NHL, Kendra is a pro soccer player, and they’re suddenly roommates thanks to a breakup, a busted apartment, and one very good British boy who’s been secretly in love with her for years.
What I loved:
- Jack is totally gone for Kendra. Like, head over skates, boy obsessed level.
- The fake dating is SO good—flirty, spicy, and full of tension.
- Kendra is fierce, strong, and real. She’s been knocked down, but she keeps going. Total queen energy.
- The chemistry? Fire. Their banter? Perfection. The spice? Off the charts, backseat scene included.
- Jack treats her like she’s his whole world, and honestly, I want that.
Favorite moments:
- Jack saying “If you were my girlfriend…” over and over while absolutely meaning it.
- Their truck scene—IYKYK.
- Jon Morgan being the best coach and stepdad.
Favorite quote:
"None of this has ever been fake to me, Kendra." 😭💘
Why it’s 5 stars:
This book gave me everything—found family, sports romance, a man down bad for his girl, and cameos from the Seattle Scorpions. I laughed, swooned, blushed, and now I want to reread it immediately. Ruth seriously leveled up with this one.
Final thoughts:
If you’re into hockey boys with accents, fake dating that turns way too real, and MMCs who worship their FMCs like queens, Perfect Deke is your next must-read. Jack Morgan is THE book boyfriend and I’m not okay. Ruth, I need the rest of this series now.

This was my first book by this author and I guess it's a spinoff from another series. I didn't feel lost or feel like I needed to read anything else, so bonus points.
Jack is a hockey player who is in love with his teammate/enemy's girlfriend Kendra. When Kendra dumps loser Tyler, Jack slides in and saves the day. The fake dating trope didn't really fit but it was ok. The boy-obsessed was truly a boy-obsessed and I was here for it. The sex scenes were ok, nothing new. I loved the "good boy" but that was only once so, bummer.
The third act breakup was over the most trivial ass thing I think I remember reading in a long time. A sentence in a text from 4 years ago when he was a kid? Naw. His actions today prove the man he is. Give me a break.
I won't continue with the series. It's just a little too sweet and boring for me. Nothing really "wrong" with it. It just isn't really my bag.
