Jake may be an extremely sweet MMC who does not have a reputation for sleeping around, but the filthy mouth on him comes as quite the shock. After pining for Kendra throughout college, he can’t help but try to be there for her during her time of need. That doesn’t mean he’s not wishing they could take things further. When her ex (and Jake’s teammate) refuses to back off, Jake proposes they fake date to keep him away. And we all know how well fake dating works out in the end... Loved the book and can’t wait for the next one!
So I accidentally read this one before reading the series where Jake's mom and step-dad get together. That being said, I still really enjoyed the story. I definitely went back and read all of the earlier books, but you don't have to in order to enjoy the book. Jake is such a sweet guy and when you add in that mouth, he is almost the perfect guy. Kendra is a strong FMC who is extremely successful in her own right. Women's sports don't pay as well as men's but she is thriving in her career. I really liked the slow build up between them that definitely paid off when they finally gave in. Another fantastic story by Ruth Stilling. Looking forward to reading more of her books.
