Definitely one of my top five favorite books of the year. I absolutely loved this one. It was clever and witty with plenty of thread to weave the story together.  The characters were each written so well, their personalities really differ but they all had this quirkiness that made each one of them shine. I just about adored all of them but Brandt was probably my favorite (and Isis…oh and Death…ah I also really love Fox).

This wasn’t quite the 5 star read I was hoping it would be and I’m scared that means I’m just not a huge fan of Olivie Blake’s writing 🥲 there was SO much filler in this book that I began to get so bored. It’s fine if one or maybe two characters are poetic lyricists but it felt like they all bloody were and that was exhausting.

I did laugh out loud several times though so this book at least had that going for it. But it definitely took until at least 60% of the way in before I actually understood what was going on. Once I did I enjoyed it but the beginning was a slog.

Olivie just always hits for me. I love her character work, I love her storytelling, I love her prose. She always has me confused but full of curiosity and in the end she makes me feel. And feeling is such a beautiful, human, thing.

Two stars for the plot I guess. But honestly I wouldn't recommend this book. It constist of mostly conversation, very little is actually happening and described happening. The conversation are made up of mostly intended to be funny stuff like all characters interrupting each other or one character trying to get a word in a convo but everybody being to busy arguing. It gets tiring and boring at some poibt to always have all characters just argue and interrupt each other like an american sitcom. Not my kind of humour at all. It being very focused on the characters and theconversations take out tension of the plot - which is not bad at all. Only thing is that it also gets tiring to hear the characters all say the same thing over and over about the so called game in a teasing way without explaining it. It's mesnt to create tension but after the many many times it's been teased it just gets annoying to read.
This book made me want to avoid this author.
