This book had its flaws and it wasn’t the best thing I’ve ever read but

’One thing I do know: they won’t want the brutal reality of conquest and slavery… No, they’ll go for something  altogether softer. A love story, perhaps?’

The people saying to just read song of Achilles instead really missed the point of this line

this was a reread and i liked this less than i did the first time. i had a hard time getting through the book at points. i found the writing jarring at times, and the dialogue was disarmingly british. i feel like the book had a lot of potential, but it didn’t hit for me.

alright let me tell you it took me a hot minute to finish this book it just didn’t keep me super invested & took some breaks before going back to it, i do genuinely like the way it was written the voice of the author/briseis was genuine & relatable, i would’ve wanted to know more about greek mythology before reading this because the names were kinda hard to remember & i don’t know all their background stories, i probably would’ve been more into it if i had more prior knowledge
