A pretty solid FBI procedural. This series has changed a lot since it began and it went from supernatural thrillerish to FBI procedural. Having said that, I like Preston and Child's writing style which is easy to read and follow. I enjoyed it and would read the next in the series.

I listened to this as an audiobook and really enjoyed it. The premise of Pendergast needing to work with a partner was great, and I liked the new characters introduced in this book a lot, particularly Coldmoon and the medical examiner, Dr. Fauchet. I'm very tempted to give this 5 stars, but even though I'm really enjoying the reboot and liked this probably the best of the recent entries in the series, it still doesn't seem quite at the level of the earlier books. This was a very well done mystery/thriller, but felt like it was missing something to make it really special.

Finally! A good old fashioned murder mystery Pendergast story without the increasingly hard to stomach mystical bent that they've been leaning on.
Pendergast gets a partner! Heading to Florida to take on a brutal case, Pendergast and said partner sink into a crime both old and new! A fun read and a breath of fresh air with the new local and cast members. Sad I only have one more Pendergast novel until I have to wait for the authors next release!
