simultaneously heart warming & heart wrenching!!!
i loved the anxiety rep, the diversity without tokenism & the unique setting for the plot (dentistry school is arguably the least romantic setting in my opinion). add a truly adorable, wonderful MMC & a painfully flawed FMC who needs a swift kick in the ass to get her shit sorted & i am sold. definitely wish harper had been kicked in the ass sooner in the book (or had at least 1 moment of growth that was propelled by herself rather than her friends) but otherwise loved loved loved this book!

Harper is just trying to finish her schooling for oral surgery and move on to her residency. Her anxiety keeps her from doing a lot of activities which works out in her favor academically.

Then she meets Dan. He helps her through some pretty severe panic attacks and stays “just friends” with her even though he wants much more than that.

They both grapple with their past and future, which inevitably drives them apart. Distance makes the heart grow fonder though and at her graduation Harper realizes what she lost and what she wants.

I love how this book shed some light on mental illness. It was super cute how Dan supported her through the dark days. I hated that she friend zoned him though, ugh!

This was okay. Harper irritated me a bit. Dan’s family issue was resolved a bit too easily. I think I liked all the friends better than the main characters……

I love a good romp that makes me feel seen. A little bit of anxiety, some rampant sexism, a dash of panic… I hoped this book would be relatable since I’ve experienced all of the above. Unfortunately, it fell flat for me.

The lead characters didn’t have much chemistry and some of the scenes felt heavy handed. I know that there are still people out there who say things like “let the man handle this” and “honey, you’re too weak for this work,” but there was no subtlety and no relatability.

I wanted to rate this highly because I want to see more books that deviate from the usual characters, but this one didn’t work for me.

A fun distraction? Sure. But there are plenty of other books (Love Hypothesis) that will give you relatability, fantasy, distraction, and representation without sacrificing story.
