what a weird little book!!!! 💛
despite it being such an unrealistic read, i absolutely loved it. the plot was good, especially the mystery part.
all the young characters were very likeable!
as for the ending, i just wanted a happy one so i don’t mind the absurdity of it. after reading their heart-wrenching scenes, i am glad they got to be together in the end 🥹

So this was a reread and because I have such a great memory (written sarcastically) it was like reading it for the first time. Sarah Eden never disappoints. An Unlikely Match was a charming ghost story that sucks you in right from the start. It is a quick, fun & slightly spooky ghostly read…  perfect for October. A beautiful, lonely and sometimes terrifying ghost, a handsome charming hero, a (former) Welsh castle and a mysterious past what’s not to like? I love a ghost story & throw in a romance and I am here for it.

Nickolas has a rather unconventional upbringing, being pushed off on different relatives while he was growing up. He didn't have a penny to his name until he inherits an old castle located in Wales and small fortune. Everything is perfect except for the ghost. For nearly four hundred years, Gwen has walked the halls of the home in which she lived and then died a mysterious death. But despite centuries as the reigning force within her ancient residence, nothing prepares her for the charm and unexpected appeal of Englishman Nickolas. I liked Nickolas quite a bit, he is funny and optimistic. I like that he sees the good in people and even though he had a lonely childhood, he was still a caring person. He makes the best of situations. I also liked our ghost Gwen. She is used to having things her way and is unprepared for someone like Nickolas. I enjoyed their relationship, liked that they became friends and thought it was believable when they started falling for each other. I really wasn't sure how everything was going to work out, what with Gwen being a ghost and all. I liked how everything was handled though and thought the whole thing was well written and enjoyable. I also liked the side characters; they added a lot of fun elements to the story. Overall, a great Halloween read, although you could read it any time and enjoy it just as much. I’d recommend this to anyone who is looking for a sweet ghost story/romance.

I liked this latest book of Sarah Eden. It took me a little bit to get into, but as I started reading, I liked it more and more. It's only 171 pages and a quick read. The story is about an Englishman who inherits a manor in Wales. What he doesn't realize, is that his home comes with a 400 year old ghost named Gwen. The more these two interact, the more they begin to like each other, but there is a huge impediment, mainly that Gwen is a ghost. This is a romantic gothic ghost tale that was an enjoyable read. Though I guessed halfway into the story what had happened to Gwen, it was still enjoyable to read the outcome. I really like this author and look forward to more books! :)

4.5 stars. This story was a bit different from Sarah Eden's other stories, but I loved it all the same. A great ghost story for this time of year!

Fun

It's exactly what you expect it to be. But also full of fun and wit and some mystery and adventure too.

So when I heard about this book, I was skeptical but there was a part of me that really wanted to read it because any book that could, potentially, pull off a charming and fluffy romance between a ghost and a guy, oooh, I wanted to read that book. But, unfortunately for me, this book did not live up to its potential.

It was the one of the saddest cases of Insta!love I've read about in a while, considering that they barely even interacted with one another before, POOF!, they were "in love". He went from not believing in her existence to tolerating her presence in his house to loving her in the space of 100 pages, which may seem like a lot, but she doesn't show up for a while, so far as he knows, and also they spend almost zero page time actually in each other's presence. Now some of their romance was off-page, but I didn't get to read it, so I don't much see what the point of that was, especially since it killed what investment I had in their story.

And to top it all off, I was flabbergasted by how terribly written the end was. Plot bunnies abounded and were running off with my lettuce and all logic. I still have no idea how Gwen was dead and she was a sacrifice in a creepy ritual and the ritual needs to be keep being performed, so her spirit comes back (I got that bit), but her body really is truly dead and decayed, so how does it come back? It just didn't make any sense. Nor does the fact that it is mentioned that the ghosts cannot pick up anything corporal, and nor can the living pick up anything incorporeal. Okay, sounds legit. But ghost-priest picks up the book and then, later, when it is convenient, Nick's real live living friend picks up the same book and throws it into a ghostly fire that burns it up completely? How does this work?? Frankly, most of this book, but especially the last 50 pages or so, was strikingly unbelievable. And I do not say this because it was a romance between a ghost and a living guy. I was ready to roll along with that, but the rest of it, nope. I draw the line somewhere.

In a truly tragic turn of events, I lost my bookmark, which also had all my notes scribbled on it, which included a truly amazingly laughable quote, but I shall do my best to remember it...

"The sight of him took her breath away, despite the fact that she had no breath that could be taken away."

I have no words for this, so I will leave you with:

I guess I just don't care for romantic/friendly ghosts. I would have liked it better if it were more truly Gothic, more mystery, less predictability. And the hero, (what was his name?) didn't really hold my attention.

I love Sarah's books, but I sat on this one for a long while. The description just didn't appeal to me, but I finally gave it a go this year. I am glad I did. I was pleasantly surprised. It had some wonderful mystery behind it and it was a nice ending to the book as well. I only wish I hadn't waited so long to read it now.

If you are not sure about it like I was, with ghosts and all that, take my word for it and just start it. It hooks you quickly, is intriguing, and a sweet romance to boot.
