ARC Review

This book is about two people trying to evolve from what they see as the rut they’ve been in, to find their next steps. I love that Cedric aka Lynx is a fresh take on the rockstar trope. Yes, he looks like the bad boy rocker, but really he has a heart and a sensitivity about him. Becca is a very likable and relatable character that you want to see figure things out and find happiness. What woman wouldn’t want to fall in love with the rock star she crushed on in her youth? It’s a neat plot line.

This book begins a new series which is a spinoff of the Mile High Matched Series. While I have read some of that series, not having read it all did not prevent me from enjoying Played by the Rockstar. Though it would give readers more background on the awesome secondary characters in the book, who provide a ton of comic relief. I like the fact that this book has many laugh out loud moments mixed in with the sizzling chemistry between Cedric and Becca. It was a fast-paced read, light on the drama and angst. There was one major twist that should set up a great future story for another couple. This was exactly what I needed— something funny, sexy, with a well developed world and characters to get sucked into. I plan to go back and catch the books I missed and look forward to what’s next for this series!❤️

Played by the Rockstar
Mile High Rocked, Book 1
By: Christina Hovland
Narrated by: Stella Hunter, Zachary Webber

Every time I listen to Christina Hovland, I am treated to a wonderful romance and a hysterical story. I can't even say how many times I laughed out loud! This is the first in a spin off series of the Mile High Club and Hovland has a winning tune! It features Linx(Cedric) and Becca. These two meet at a bar, and immediately we have combustible chemistry. A fan of his band, Becca knows who he is, but isn't your typical fan girl. She is not looking for long term and for the time being Linx is good with that. And from there we laugh and fall in love with this couple. But I have to say, the scenes with their families are the ones that stick in my mind. I was cracking up with Becca's mom and her pop rocks and the surprise visit by Linx's family. And we can't forget Babushka. Always filled with sage advice, she brings levity to the story. I loved Becca's no nonsense look at life and her psychological evaluations and techniques. And Linx is just a sweet, man that is impossible not to love despite any flaws. This is a #1 hit in my book!

Stella Hunter and Zachary Webber are fantastic together. I love this team and their voice compliment each other. Their comedic timing is spot on and the emotions there when needed. I loved this performance and cant's wait to see what happens in book 2!

Fun, humorous, easy read that's a little bit steamy and a little bit angsty as Becca and Cedric "Linx" discover something unexpected with each other while on hiatus from a stressful therapy job and tempestuous bandmates.

Played by the Rockstar is a charming start to a spin-off series with cameos from some Mile High Matched series favorites—BABUSHKA! But I have to say while the opening act was good, I'm more eager and intrigued by Linx's sister Courtney's story that's coming up in Knocked Up by the Rockstar.

*Note: Can be read as a stand-alone, but I recommend the Mile High Matched series—Blow Me Away and Take it off the Menu are full of Babushka match-making hilarity—if you want to read the stories of the characters cameoed.

This was just okay for me. The writing was okay, but I found it really hard to get into. I kept putting it down and coming back to it. I never really got Linx and Becca as a couple. Sure Becca wants to jump him, but I never really felt a connection between them. The whole thing with the senior citizens was just weird and felt out of place to me. Maybe if I had read the series this book was a spin off from I may have got it, but as it stands it was just strange. Personally, I felt like the best part of the book was the last couple of chapters. The ending was sweet, and made for a good HEA.
I voluntarily reviewed an advanced readers coy of this book.

Cedric aka Linx is a Rockstar for the band Dimefront by since they are on a hiatus, he is in town needing a hobby while taking care of his new cat, Gibson. Becca has spent a lot of time helping other people being a therapist, but it has taken a toll on her emotionally, so she is in town trying to relax until she figures out her next steps. These two have an instant connection and Becca knows she should fight it but it is impossible for her not too when Linx constantly says the right things to her and treats her oh so sweetly. I loved how Linx helped Becca find herself and how Becca helped Linx through some issues he was carrying around. With Babushka and her crazy antics, the banter between Becca and Linx, and all the steamy moments I was swooning one second and laughing so hard the next. I loved this story and can’t wait to see how the other members of the band stories will play out.

I haven't even finished this one and I'm writing this review

I am only half way through this audiobook and I'm honestly laughing so hard listening to this.

The tension and attraction is great and I really enjoyed their relationship. Their friends are a great additions to the story, Gibson is adorable but Becca's mother is definitely my favourite. Chapter 10 onwards had me laughing out loud, which was incredibly difficult at work.

Both of the main characters are in their own version of career limbo, but they see each other and we have the insta-lust. Becca is upfront about where she is and what her expectations are. Their relationship is hot and sweet, which develops along with Becca's uncertainty of what she wants in life and Cedric trying to take things slow while working out what he can do while his band mates are ghosting him.

With a little forced proximity, there is nothing complicated about this story and no massive conflicts which makes it a really easy read/listen.
