3.5/5 - See the thing is, that this isn't actually very good. Like, it's really predictable and cliche and *nudge* really wants you to get how hip and cool these kids are with their pop culture references. But I had a good time, and I literally couldn't put it down. This was exactly what I wanted it to be, but I still wish that it had been better.

There are a couple of questionable descriptions of beauty in this? Like, Olivia's eye shape is more almond and has really dark hair (she calls her ethnicity ketchup at point? - I have no idea what's going on there, her sister is like tanned and blonde with big round eyes) and Nicolas keeps describing her as exotic? I didn't like it, and it felt really gross.

I'm already halfway through the next book, someone send me help because I'm having an identity crisis.

This was super cute! I loved the buildup of Nicholas' and Olivia's relationship, and all the jokes made me laugh. Yet, once they got together, I thought the plot became less exciting! Nonetheless, I can't wait to get my hands on book two! I can't wait to meet Sarah again, I loved her bookish/awkwardness!

the siblings' relationships saved this

That was truly an entertaining story! I'm looking forward to the next one.

The number of factual errors (you don't knead pie crust), terribly written characters, and overly clichéd moments, made me wonder if this was badly written on purpose? If so, this might be quite cute!

Spoiler
I generally enjoyed it up until the last 10% when he suddenly abdicated?? that felt abrupt and out of character to me...

After getting to know Nicolas and Olivia a little in the third Royal novel, I wanted to read their beginning story so I could appreciate them more. I like Olivia and Nicolas just fine, but there wasn't anything that blew me away. The ending was kinda romantic but mostly cheesy. Some parts were cute and it was a fine read, but I don't think I would have liked it nearly as much if I didn't know where the story ends.

I really enjoyed this book which is crazy because when I first looked at the title and thought I could never enjoy it but I was so wrong. There were a couple of plot holes but for the most part I really liked the story and the characters and I'm looking forward to book 2!
