This book was well written and I liked the interwoven storylines. It also brought tears to my eyes for parts of the story. What worked was the respect the author shows in regards to the subject matter. She focuses more on the aftermath and survival and/or healing of the characters. It was a fantastic read and I highly recommend it.

re-read in 2024- I have enjoyed many of Nora Roberts' standalone novels, but this one stands out as my favorite. The story feels particularly relevant and it's commendable that Nora tackled such a sensitive topic. This book is deeply moving and represents a bold move on Nora's part, as it delves into the contentious issue of gun control, sparking a range of opinions and reflections.
However, Reid, the male hero is a kinda a jerk, Nora sometimes writes really aggressive men. He's no where as bad as Zander from the obsession and miles from Identity..
2020 tHI loved it. I love her writing, I think she's wonderful.
this book is just really good, it's also very painful to read because of the subject matter and the nightmare of America's obsession with guns and how WE aren't doing a goddamn thing about it..
I loved that as the book progressed through the years from the mass shooting we were able to see how the main characters grew and changed and how that tragedy affected their lives - whether it was their family dynamics or friendships or romantic relationships and the scar that they will deal with for the rest of their lives.

This book was so good. I almost quit reading it because the beginning was tough to get through. Given our world today, the storyline was too real and I like to escape reality when I read. Ms. Roberts reeled me in with her writing and kept me interested with every twist and turn. I admit to expecting a different ending but I was satisfied with how the story wrapped up. I highly recommend this book!

Loved it! I was pulled right into the story and I loved the characters. The romance was warm and sincere, and the relationships formed after the massacre felt special, even Barney! Great read!

Nora Roberts is not normally my cup of tea, but since this book was getting such high ratings, I decided to give it a go. I'm glad I did. It's the story of a shooting at a mall and how it affects the lives of the characters involved. The creepy antagonist is a beautifully drawn character by Ms. Roberts and that particular character ended up making the book. Definitely a surprisingly good and fast-paced book and worth reading.

After reading more than 100 from the same author, the story arc, plots, characters are bound to feel familiar, predictable, stale and honestly? tiresome.

Well holy shit, Nora Roberts. You managed to write a romance novel that surrounds a mass shooting, and somehow made it all OK. And compelling.
I wasn’t sure how I was going to feel about reading a romance novel, especially at the beginning, where she details the actual mass shooting. Roberts writes it well - not grotesquely, but sympathetically (in terms of the victims). It’s less of a romance and more of a journey - a journey of survival, acceptance. It’s so compelling. I got sucked into the characters, and there are many. It’s about how a tragedy impacts familial relationships, friendships, romantic relationships. The coincidences are more than that - it’s fate. And somehow, I can accept that in this novel, where in others, it’s just a literary device.
It’s one of the best novels I’ve ever read, and I don’t mean that in the romance context. Well done.
