This book starts off as a dark fantasy, but somehow morphes into a lovely, adventurous found family. Such an interesting cast of characters, each so uniquely developed.

Overall I enjoyed this, but it took about a third of the book for things to really get going. I liked the anti-fairytale feel with morally grey characters.

This was quite slow to start, but at around 80/90 pages it really picked up. The characters are brilliant and I especially enjoyed the story when our random team becomes fully assembled.
I loved the animal characters and thought they added a lot of humour and innocence. The older women in the crew were brilliant and I loved reading their contrasting personalities.

This isn’t heavy fantasy and isn’t plot heavy, though plenty happens, but I would say 50/50 plot/character focus and I really enjoyed it.

This book is so much fun. The story has a perfect balance of adventure, suspense, drama, and humor, and the characters (especially Bonedog) are all delightful.
