Fantastic. This book was excellent, it left "Handmaid's Tale" feeling like a prequel.
I felt the Handmaid's Tale relied too heavily on the fear of such inhumane oppression to tell the story for it (which personally removed me from the story) , however The Testaments truly stands on it's own magnificently. It was engrossing and tense, and explores this dystopian society in all the ways I wish the Handmaid's Tale did. It tied the story from the Handmaid's Tale beautifully, and added in more perspectives of this world that reading the first book did bring to light; such as how would a child brought up in this life act, and how do the authority figures live with themselves?
I credit Margaret Atwood for returning after 35 years to continue this story, and her experience in writing and storytelling truly shows.
