… as I discovered what had been changed by Gilead, what had been added, and what had been omitted, I feared I might lose my faith.
What an amazing next installment in The Handmaid’s Tale series. I was skeptical as I genuinely loved The Handmaid’s Tale, and I was nervous this book would be a letdown in comparison. This was a carefully crafted piece of literature that delves into the resilience of women in their pursuit of freedom from an oppressive nation. A beautiful finale to the series that needed to be shared.

Well. This is hard to review. Heads up- there may be minor spoilers. Actual rating is a bit lower but I did decide to round up. The first half was a slog to get through. Nothing much happens. Second half picked up but just when things are interesting, it ends. It is not like the Handmaid's Tale at all. Which is fine but I see why so many are upset. This isn't the info I wanted. The afterward should have been a foreward. If I had gone into it wondering 'how does Gilead end' I think I would've liked it more. I also wanted less of the 2 teens, more of Aunt lydia and maybe even a commander POV (what?!) or a wife. A true believer POV and how they viewed the problems in Gilead.
Narration- I love that Ann Dowd narrated!! Her parts were my favorite. I love that Aunt Lydia got a better back story than the one in the TV series. The 2 girls sounded the same to me. So much so that I would forget who I was listening to. One girl's POV was chronologically longer than the other POVs. Meaning she started as a teen and then fast forward 5 years, then 3 years, etc. Except she always sounded like a teen girl. She didn't come across as a 20 something.
I loved/hated how the Handmaid's Tale ended. But this one was wrapped up in a bow. All loose ends tied up nicely. I rather think she should have left some details unanswered.

This was what I wanted The Handmaid’s Tale to be.

It was just ok. I feel like the "fall" wasn't detailed nearly enough. And, just like The Handmaid's Tale, I hated the symposium ending. This felt rushed and poorly written, which is a shame.
