A beautifully written book that speaks to a part of history that is not covered nearly enough. The mess that the British and other Empires left in their colonies has led to the death and exodus of many. Those after effects will continue for much longer.

I didn't like a single character in this book. It's very hard to make me care about the plight of characters who keep being racist the whole way through like oh no you're being displaced but then again you can't stop calling the natives of the island you're on slow, stupid and lazy so L I guess.

I won this in a giveaway and thought it was overall interesting, not the most plot driven but not in a bad way. A look into the impacts of a coup on a family that just want to make it through.
