Lots going on here in Book 2. I started this immediately after finishing The Mask of Mirrors because I just wanted to stay in this world a bit longer, but I felt that it dragged a bit before ultimately dumping SO MUCH information on the reader in the last 1/4. I enjoyed how much more character building and depth we got in this book (love you, Vargo) and i'm ultimately curious how things will wrap up in the third book, but I'm nervous about
Ren and Gray and whether Ren will fall into the age old trap of losing all agency once she falls in love.

It felt like the book was scared to do anything with its plot and characters (dangles morally grey characters and then destroys them into strictly good).
Book 1 introduced some stakes, while Book 2 was walking in one place.
I can't imagine reading 600+ pages more of this, so I am dropping the series.
