In my opinion, the step-family taboo was totally unnecessary. This is a great story where things move forward and progress in a way that makes sense. But the taboo didn’t even really add anything to the story?

They really didn't have to be related, and the author really didn't have to keep reminding me.

After reading this book I am going to make my new years resolution to read the synopsis of each book before I read it - because I went in blind on this one and was just not prepared.

I was definitely entertained before getting 50% of the way through the book, but pretty much as soon as you hit the half way point everything is (to put it delicately) intimate and weird.

To be honest, I skimmed the spicy parts because they didn't make much sense, and the random "uncle Jake's" grossed me out.

What was that?! I went into this book loosely knowing what it was about, and let me just say—I was notprepared. That’s not to say I didn’t have a good time, but… goodness gracious! This entire book was one gigantic red flag 🚩 after another. I don’t even know how to process it. I’m in shock.

Let me just start by saying: I didn’t fully like any of these characters. If I could pick and choose pieces of their personalities and delete the rest, sure, maybe. But as they are? I dunnoooo… And I mean honestly, the whole town needs help lol. Noah? I thought he was going to be a cute, lovable, golden-retriever-type guy, but he was so aggressive anytime he didn’t get his way. And speaking of aggressive… HELLO? Kaleb? SIR?? We listen and we tell the judge 👨‍⚖️. Lowkey, I started skipping scenes with him until close to the end because he was just so unessecarily aggressive, which might explain why I was so confused about the final choice 😅. And Uncle Jake? Yeah, he’s just… Uncle Jake. He’s got issues. We know this 🙂‍↕️. Tiernan… I can’t decide if you’re the luckiest girl or the most unluckiest girl lol.

Anywho, I could go on forever about all the things that left me spiraling, but in conclusion: I read it. I saw it. I experienced it. I am forever traumatized. But somehow? I had lots of fun!

First, key me say this book was good. The writting was excellent, the spice levels great, the conflicts believable. The she of the female protagonist was fine. I mean I've never met an tighten year old that mature but for the story it was fine. The only downside for me was the ending. I wanted a completely different ending. Even though the ending made sense and was more true to real life I would have preferred more fantasy. But that's just me and it didn't detract from the quality of the book. It's a bit of a wild ride but still very enjoyable. Make sure you take the trigger warnings serious, though, because there's A LOT of real life triggering subject matter.

kmmiller0317's review against another edition

DID NOT FINISH: 35%

This is incest, pure and simple. There’s grooming, SA, and relations with a minor and an adult. Booktok did me so wrong on this one, I’ve learned to research books more before going in blind. Absolutely disgusting.
