I’m not big on the incest trope, and a few scenes felt very unbelievable
like the first time Kaleb lays eyes on T he can’t help but try and rape her? Or that someone as possessive and jealous as Kaleb would want his first time with her to be while his brother is also balls deep? I wasn’t a huge fan of ol step uncle Jake getting her “cherry” or using her dead parents leaving her to him as foreplay, ignoring the weird step incest I could enjoy the spicy scenes. I mean, at least they waited til she was 18 for full penetration?
it was nice if you go into the book knowing it’s all a little farfetched and once you focus on that it’s enjoyable

It’s written well, just a little too dark for me with the incest stuff 🫠

Obviously taboo, but didn’t mind that, it did get a bit confusing though, randomly
turning on porn and jerking off with your brother to “get through the winter”
is definitely a choice. I felt like the first half was okay and it went downhill from there. Some spicy scenes are very well written. I think the book did what it wanted to do, but I didn’t feel like the story made much sense. I didn’t like who she ended up
idk why but I felt the most for her and Jake lmao
, I felt like none of them actually knew what they wanted and changed their minds like the wind, which got annoying. Also for me the taboo was fine, I mean you know what you’re getting into, but them playing happy family after all of it and with the epilogue idk, I guess I found the way they dealt with
sharing her turned into we are family
and that felt icky and not in a hot way 😂 Interesting read, if you’re looking for some different spice, go for it, but don’t expect too much.

Spice: 4/5

Type of read: Weekend/Lunchtime Read.

What made me pick it up: It seemed like I couldn't scroll one day without seeing something about 'Credence' on my TikTok FYP. I couldn't justify buying it because I knew it wasn't going to be 100% my vibe, but when Kindle offered it for free, I couldn't resist.

Overall rating: Here's the thing: I truly feel like Douglas tried to put some plot into 'Credence.' Like a lot of the popular smut you see on social media, 'Credence' could have used an editor, but at least there was an attempt. One of the things that probably prevented me from picking up 'Credence' for so long was the relationship aspect between the FMC and MMCs. There is no blood relation (which is made clear in the book), but the taboo aspect of familial bond is still there and sometimes played off of, which was definitely part of the book that wasn't up my alley. If you're into a somewhat why choose, with posessive MMCs, dubious consent with an actual semblance of a plot line, 'Credence' isn't a bad choice.

Reader's Note: We've got trigger warnings, friends, including: misogynistic behavior, power imbalance, group sex, sexual violence, dubious consent, suicide, child neglect, domestic abuse, sexual harassment, and bondage (pulled from https://pendouglas.com/books/stand-alones/credence/).
