Ivy lost the election yesterday and will not be the senior class president. She doesn’t want to go to school and face the class clown … the new president. Mateo feels overwhelmed since he is working two jobs to help support his family and Cal feels alone since he was stood up. When these three seniors randomly meet up outside of school, they decide to skip school and go to the city. They were friends years ago, after all. They quickly learn they don’t have much in common anymore, but when they spot another student ditching school, they decide to follow him and stumble across his murdered body. They flee the scene, but what should they do next?

You’ll Be the Death of Me is a stand-alone mystery that promises to be exciting but doesn’t fully pull it off. I enjoyed the premise of the story and was turning pages to see how it was going to end, but the overall storyline felt like it was trying too hard to be Ferris Bueller’s Day Off. If you want a fun and quick mystery to read, this is the book. If you are looking for McManus’ next masterpiece, you might be waiting a little longer.

I smell a sequel coming.

This was some YA mystery/thriller poop. There’s a dead person. Some drugs. And Scooby Doo and the gang solve this case in 14 minutes and 7 seconds. The ending was a hot cocoa mess.

This was outlandish and mostly kinda stupid. It was fast and mindless but there was way too many things happening in this story. The adults were dumb and I didn't really have any characters I liked that much. Nothing I would add to your tbr if you're looking for a smart mystery. If you just want something quick and easy than this is a good option.

This was an entertaining and enjoyable YA read. It wasn’t super realistic, especially how the climax was resolved, but I couldn’t put it down! Showed some realistic family dynamics and teen pressures. Fact-paced, multiple POVs, and good twists.

Karen M. McManus is kind of a guilty pleasure for me, but I do think this was the worst of her books so far. The end was a bit forced and whatever the scorched earth final scene was supposed to be was…insane to put it lightly.

OMG this book!! I really enjoyed the twists and turns the story took as they found new information. And that ending!! Scorched-earth indeed girl... go for it!
