This wasn't quite as good as the first Crescent City book, but this was still a book I greatly enjoyed. Interestingly enough, there is more angst in this book than the first and for once, it comes from the MMC, not the FMC. There are some points the feel like they are ret-cons, but nowhere near as bad as in ACOTAR.
I still don't really like Bryce, though. She seems to suffer from the same illness as Violet in Fourth Wing: she thinks she's entitled to know everything about a person if they are close to her. She spends most of the book completely incredulous that her deceased best friend would have had secrets that Bryce didn't know and is pissed off about it. A lot of her motivations for doing what she does aren't necessarily because she is a Good Guy and it's the Right Thing to Do, but because she just wants to know what Danica was keeping from her.
The side characters still shine though. Ruhn and Tharion are probably two of favorite characters in any series I've read so far this year. Ruhn is actually getting close to Mat Cauthon-level favorite.
