I have not read an epic fantasy that has enthralled me as much as this book has in a long time. This book is equal to, if not better than, other firsts in the series such as Eye of the World by Robert Jordan, The Way of Kings by Brandon Sanderson, Game of Thrones by George Martin, or The Hobbit by Tolkien.

When I first started this book, I was skeptical, because it seemed to be just like any other Hero's Story with more elements pulled from King Arthur. The farther I got into the book, the more I realized that Goodkind is a master weaver of stories just like all of the other Greats.

I cannot wait to read more about Richard and Kahlan. I've had this series on my TBR for far too long, and I regret not having read this series sooner.

I decided to re-read this book for the specific purpose of deciding if I wanted to re-read/finish the entire Sword of Truth Series.

Things I enjoyed: detailed descriptions of places, magic, and world-building
Things I did not enjoy: Most of the rest of it.

I forgot how slow it was. I forgot how annoying it was to have the two main characters crying every other chapter. I didn't like the characterizations, how how people interacted with each other and
how they reacted to what was happening at any given moment.

I remember really enjoying this book the first time I read it, so I guess I just have different tastes now. This pretty much confirms that I won't be finishing this series.

A very good epic, high fantasy sword and sorcery novel. This book has one of the best male leads in epic high fantasy that I've ever read.

"He understood why she had been afraid to tell him. He was her only friend. He felt even more foolish for thinking only of himself. If her friend was all he could be, then that's what he would be. Even if it killed him. "
-Richard Cypher pg. 527

I can't wait to continue the series.

Hi, friend. I know that since you're here reading my review, we are the best of friends. And because we're friends, I will tell you what I thought of this book. But, also because we're such good friends, I won't ask you what you thought of the book. Friends don't ask friends questions. We just trust each other unconditionally.

So, friend, trust me when I say I can't stand this book any longer. If I have to read the word friend one more time, I'm going to slap someone. And it won't be a sign of friendship or respect.

I usually like epic fantasies, and I know this one is quite popular. I just can't get past the childlike main character, who talks about friends more than a kindergarten kid on a playground. And frankly, I find the book boring.

I've been skimming, really trying to find something of interest, but then I realized I'm on page 300, and I still have 500 more to go. It's just not worth it. There are so many other good books out there. I just don't have time for this.
