It's always a bad sign when I entertain ideas of not finishing a book. Perhaps it was because I thought the Egyptian gods were more confusing than the Greek gods in Percy Jackson. It could have been that I was a bit annoyed by the main characters (their banter got old and there wasn't a clear enough difference between their narrations). Or it was too long. Or all of the above.

However, though it was a bit of a chore for me, I think most Percy Jackson fans will enjoy this series, as well.

I absolutely loved this. I have always had a special interest in Egyptian Mythology so I knew I would enjoy it somewhat, but the pacing, the constant action, and the sibling relationship was more than I hoped for.

I would say the pacing felt a bit jostling at times, like Riordan couldn't pick a speed. Also, some characters would "die" but then be fine later. This happened quite a lot. And the prophetic dreams that they both had (Carter and Sadie), is something I disliked from the first series with Percy as well. Basically, Riordan is limited by the first person POV so to deliver story relevant information that is happening without the MC he just gives the MC dreams or let's them eavesdrop on the villains. It's not the best way to go about it, especially when a different POV would solve this issue.

However, overall I loved this. Great start, and I can't wait to pick up book 2.
