⚔️A Gripping Start to a New Fantasy Series: 'To Kill a Shadow' by Katherine Quinn ✨️ This review contains minor spoilers ✨️

In 'To Kill a Shadow', Katherine Quinn presents a young adult fantasy that surprised me with its vivid and sometimes grisly scenes, hinting at a more mature tone than your average YA novel.

I felt that the world-building lacked some depth, but as this is the initial instalment, I'm hopeful that Katherine Quinn will expand on it in future books. Nonetheless, the palpable tension between Jude and Kira is compelling, keeping me engaged with twists and turns aplenty.

Jude Maddox's evolution is interesting, while Kiara Frey emerges as a captivating heroine, embodying resilience and strength. Their complex backstories hint at further depth. However, the rapid development of deep friendships and relationships
felt somewhat rushed, considering the brief timeframe with which they'd known each other.

Still, the suspense and tension throughout the book were on point, and the dialogue was sharp and engaging.

the cliffhanger at the end had me excited for the next instalment!

suprised by this book, because my expectations were very low. Although the writing could sometimes improve (such as unnecessary cliffhangers, which were not even real (e.g. End of chapter: 'he got stepped in the chest', beginning of following chapter: 'oh near miss/not really a wound'). But the plot of the book was very enjoyable and i am curious to how they are gonna fix this problem (although I expect that it will be a happy ending; i would love it if the writer would go another way...;))

O.M.G. This was a 6 star read for me. I finished it today and have no idea what to do with myself until the next book comes out. In a cursed land where the sun has been missing for 50 years, a ruthless king orders every family in every town to offer up a son to help enter the cursed mist in hopes of breaking the curse and bringing the sun back. So many twists and turns and me constantly guessing at who/what the characters are and me being totally shocked at the villain reveal at the end. The story and lore intrigued me, I absolutely ate up the budding romance between the MMC and FMC,and I cannot wait to see where this story ends. This book has stolen my heart and placed itself in my list of all time favorites that I’ll be sure to reread a 1000 times.

THIS BOOK CHANGED ME!!!

I found this book under a recommended for you section and I am grateful I did. I can not believe I did not hear about this book until after it was published.

I think To Kill A Shadow was so well written and paced fantastically. I did enjoy that by Chapter 4, Kiara was chosen for the Knights and we were into the story full speed. It definitely was a medium-ish paced tale from there, but I loved that. The buildup of going into the Mist was brilliant. By the time we reached halfway through the book, the story was established well.

This story had a lot of dark elements to it and I was here for it. A story where nobody is safe from the end always makes you nervous. The way
character deaths were done and detailed honestly made the story even better. Yes, that is wild to say, but I like that nothing was off limits. I liked that you in ways gained a liking or relationship as a reader to these characters and they were ripped (literally) away from you just as fast. You could feel with the other characters and their heartache. I think what made even more painful was how close they all truly became.

The theme of friendship and trust played huge roles in this book. I LOVED that. I was so happy to see great friendships growing as the story progressed. I honestly felt that these two themes played a way more bigger part in the story than romance. Romance was there, but it was not the main focus.

Another thing I loved a lot reading this was how well the characters were laid out. You understood each one and their personalities yet there still was a mystery to them. KIARA AND JUDE!!! THE LEGENDS THAT YOU ARE!!! I can not even begin to explain how much and how quickly I fell in love with these two. Their slow burn romance... I could applaud it. Katherine Quinn developed their story so well. I really appreciated that yes, you know they are in love, but it was not the main focus of their story. The way they felt for each other helped dictate decisions they made through the story.
I really enjoyed how the way they felt for each other tied right into the story.
I really loved that Kiara and Jude had a connection, but they also stood so well as their individual selves. Their banter was everything.

The POV switching between Kiara and Jude flowed really well. This was one of those books I hihgly enjoyed having a duel POV. It definitely helped understand them as characters better reading about their inner thoughts.

I loved this book. I love these characters. And I can not wait to read the sequel, but I am also fearing for my life. So yes, please read this book.
