Quite enjoyable and interesting for such a quick read. There's some meat in there to chew over. Surprised me and made me want to read more of Kevin Wilson's work. Of the two I've read, this is my favorite.
I didn't know what to expect when it came to "Nothing To See Here" by Kevin Wilson besides two kids catching themselves on fire for no explainable reason. I think there were a couple of important lessons that Wilson touched on, but there were some things that felt a little off to me as well.
It was hard to like most of the characters, maybe that was the point, but for a book being under 300 pages, I was trudging along a little bit because of that. I like our protagonist, who is far from perfect, but the story behind that, as well as the realizations, made the character development stronger. I also enjoyed most of the writing style throughout; you can tell Wilson was trying to mix humor and heartwarming moments into an intriguing premise. The themes this book portrayed I thought were done well too.
One of my biggest critiques was not getting the emotional payoffs in many instances. Every character that has interacted with our main character, those plot points felt unfinished or not delved into enough. I felt teased out of moments that could have made a bigger impact on me as a reader. There were chapters where I felt bored with what I was reading, and that might have been due to the length Wilson decided to make each chapter. It felt like some parts were stretched out that ended up not having much relevance later on.
I think people should read "Nothing to See Here" themselves and see how they feel about it. I own a copy of his newest read, "Run For the Hills," and I would love to read that one and see how I feel about it.

I loved this book so much! You do have to suspend your disbelief but it's so worth it! The characters are quirky and realistic and the writing is superb! Do yourself a favor and read it.

Funny, silly, quirky, heartwarming. Nothing too serious (it’s a book about children who catch on fire, after all) but there were some nice reflections on societal expectations, wealth disparity, and relationships.
