This well-loved book has been on my radar for awhile. When I saw Marin Ireland was the narrator, I set up my Libby hold right away.
đ: Lillian and Madison were friends during Lillian's short stint at private school. They kept in touch via letters ever since. One day Madison asks Lillian if she would help take care of her twin step-children. The catch is that the kids spontaneously combust...
đ¤: This may be a good fit if you enjoy:
- unique magical realism
- found family
- lost adults finding their way
đ: This was an enjoyable audiobook. I thought all of the relationship dynamics were really interesting. It sounded so weird thinking about kids who start on fire, but it worked here. I enjoyed the fierce relationship that grew between Lillian and the twins. Overall, this was a fun listen. I don't know how memorable I'll find it compared to some readers who really loved this one. (I got a lot of messages when I posted about reading it.)
đ§: Marin Ireland is fantastic, as always. Definitely recommend the audio.

Nothing to See Here by Kevin Wilson is a unique, fun, and light-hearted novel. Lillian and Madison were best friends at a prestigious boarding school. After Lillian is suddenly expelled, they continue to keep in touch, mailing the occasional letter to update each other on their lives. Madison, of course, has a successful life and marries a popular senator. One day, Lillian receives a letter from Madison offering her a job. With a dead-end life and nothing to lose, Lillian accepts and becomes âgovernessâ to Madisonâs twin stepchildrenâŚwho spontaneously catch on fire.
â˘
Nothing to See Here is unusual and quirky but touches on deep concepts of loneliness, forgiveness, and family as Lillian evaluates her life, her lack of success, and the children who now need her. Wilsonâs writing captivates as he creates a funny and emotional and NORMAL story about kids who catch on fire. An absolutely enjoyable and quick read.

This is written how I expect every man to write about being a woman. Apparently, anytime 2 women live together we just want to make out. All of the characters are one dimensional and the idea was original, but it didnât really go anywhere.
I have to be honest and say that this is the WORST book that I have read in a really long time ...
I always try to find something positive in every book I read and I rarely use a 1 âď¸ rating but here I couldnât find anything!
I simply didnât understand what was the purpose of this book ??
I was intrigued at first to read about children who caught on fire but the story was just so boring !!
I kept listening to the audiobook, waiting for an ending that would blow my mind but all I wanted to do at the end was kill myself because I wasted my time!

"Slowly, the fire rolled down to her hands, and was this jittery flame and she was holding it. She was holding it in her hands, cupped together. It looked like what love must look like, just barely there, so easy to extinguish."
"My mom had once told me that being a mother was made up of âregret and then forgetting about that regret sometimes."
Absurd and relatable at the same time! The folding in of an outlandish fantastical element that some people just accept was a *touch* like the book "When Women Were Dragons".
Listed to on audible and the authors accents cracked me up and also seemed so authentic for the setting.
Dealt interestingly with topics of privilege, childhood, society, trauma, nature vs nurture, family, and love.
