This graphic novel is a reimagining of Cassandra Cain(-Wayne) aka Batgirl's origin story. It follows Cassandra from her decision to leave her father, the dangerous assassin, David Cain, and finds a new family for herself in Barbara Gordon and, a new character, Jackie Fujikawa Honeyama.

It explores themes of identity and choosing your own path. I liked the overall story and the art was super cute. I also liked the interpretation of Cassandra and Barbara's characters and felt they were in line with the comics.

My biggest gripe with this graphic novel is the forced and out-of-place romantic subplot. Romance has never been a big part of Cassandra's stories in the comics and this romance was super shallow and didn't feel genuine. I feel like it would have been better if there was no romance and Cassandra and Erik could have just been friends.

Overall I liked this graphic novel a lot and would definitely recommend it to Cassandra Cain fans and those new to comics.
