Loved!
So glad that Charlie Cochet is continuing with stories in this universe.

Real Rating: 3.75* of five
Five w-bombs. More later.
***LATER***
Six too many w-bombs. Really annoying.
Good tale of Austen's final descent into loving couplehood, and sets up a neat new dynamic for him vis-a-vis THIRDS daddies Sloane and Dex.
Far too little attention paid to the political subplot, so the ending was a whirlwind of telling not showing so that the set piece would work. Like every other book in the series, it's compulsively readable, and its universe (while exceedingly improbable) is the real draw. All of these books share a dynamic, one that's really telling and also really disheartening: Humans only forget old hates when new ones take their place.
At a guess, Author Cochet is a bitter romantic, a sadder-and-wiser love junkie with a passel of stories left to tell because the damn things won't be quiet. I think THIRDS, if one can shelve the analytical eyebrow-quirking inner Bill Nye criticizing the science, will appeal to veterans of the love wars. Perhaps more than the rookies.
Read on, follow Author Cochet's lead.

I fell in love with Austen throughout the series and I’m so happy he finally gets a book focused on him. This book was just as exciting and snarky as I would expect a book focusing on Austen would be. I loved the story, I love the romance, and the sex scenes were hot and spicy.

For those of us who’ve read all the THIRDS books, the collection of short stories, the novellas, the THIRDS Thursdays snippets, this book comes along like a breath of fresh air. Much as I love Dex and Sloane and the Destructive Delta gang (and I do love them, so, so much – Dex would have to be one of my favourite book characters) I was happy that their story was basically finished, they have their HEA, they’ve married and moved on to bigger and brighter things. It’s time for some new stories in this richly developed world.
Austen and Zach, a cheetah Therian and a bear Therian, have been in the background of the Dex and Sloane show since book 2. They meet when Austen has been injured by rogue Therians and Sloane asks Zach to look after Austen for him. As the THIRDS books progress you get hints of what is going on in the background, but while we get a glimpse into Austen’s world a little, as it collides a lot with Destructive Delta, and you also get a couple of POV moments, Zach is still a bit of a mystery to us.
My first impression of Zach as he holds Dex upside down because he took the last packet of cheesy doodles wasn’t great. But obviously there is more to the story and in this book, we get a wonderful glimpse into a more normal life of a Therian. Zach isn’t tortured, he doesn’t have a dark past. He isn’t a lone wolf (pretty hard with the amount of siblings he has), and he is the youngest, so has been coddled and babied most of his life.
Very different to Austen, whose background is painful (Sloane found him as a street kid at 14 remember?).
This is a very much more traditional romance than the THIRDS series. They were more about the action and the continuing adventures of Destructive Delta, and the sex was pretty hot, but this book, the title says it all. I think that’s why I really loved this, probably more than some of the THIRDS books, certainly more than the THIRDS books that weren’t Dex and Sloane POVs.
I won’t talk about the story much, as it isn’t out for a while yet, but there is definitely a HEA, no cliffhangers, and some subtle hints about who might be next.
Cutest moment: when Brayden changes into his Snow Leopard form and trots out with his fluffy tail in his mouth, aww.
