While some people found it overly explanatory and full of too many erroneous words, I really enjoyed the author's intelligence and way of explain the characters' thought processes.

A typical murder mystery with an interesting psychological plot twist. I admit I would be freaked out if I got a letter that said “I know you so well, I can guess what number you are thinking” and then inside that envelope is a smaller envelope with the exact number I had guessed. Yep, that would be freaky. A solid 3 stars, but not a series I need to continue.

This was a really clever debut mystery. The clues were carefully laid and the plot moved along at a fast, but not breakneck, pace. The main character is a retired detective who can't let his old job go after a long lost acquaintance resurfaces asking for help with a bizarre mystery. This had a more literary quality than many of the detective/mystery/serial killer genre books I've been reading and I found it refreshing.
