there were a lot of things in this story that just didn’t sit right with me. It sounds a little weird because this is a memoir but I haven’t run into other conservation books that feel so self serving and shallow??? Maybe part of it was the audio book narrator, I’m not sure. I feel bad about this rating because conservation is so important but I was honestly just happy to be done reading this.
Interesting to hear about her travels and the good people she met along the way. Not necessarily read for the writing style.

This book is comprised of a perfectly calibrated mixture of daring adventure and exploration, nature writing and science communication.
Dykman went on a trip, and a few things go wrong, but not very many, and certainly not in any dramatic way. She did not get murdered even a little bit. Her travelogue is vulnerable; she lets us see when she was afraid, the decisions she had to make that made her uncomfortable, the trade-offs of staying in her tent vs. staying in someone else's home, and the hassle it is to find a shower when you're travelling by bike.
When she talks about the monarchs there is always love dripping from every sentence. She's invested, and as the reader, you can't help but care as well. A great read.

its highlights are talking about nature education as the hope for the future, but I also enjoyed learning about monarchs !
Interesting book club read! Got a bit preachy and repetitive sometimes, but overall I learned a lot. Now I can’t stop looking for milkweed everywhere I go

I loved the facts about monarchs weaved into the story. I’m a big monarch nerd and still learned so much & recommended to several family members who love monarchs too!
