Pretty great but I did find myself skimming parts of it. Interesting, original story and captivating magical world.

Fascinating epic and interwoven interesting world, cast of characters and resolution. Both inexorably menacing and oddly removed from the big danger.

I don't know if it's that I read this too close to other McKillip books or if it didn't work as well for me. I should read it again and decide.

Beautiful writing and beautiful story, I was drawn in from the beginning

After reading wonderful things about McKillip's abilities with fantasy, I was very disappointed with this title. The writing style alternated between intensive detailing of the environment and dream-like ramblings through the characters' thoughts. I alternated between being bored and being confused.

DNF, I was literally bored out of my mind. It's such a pity because I adore McKillip, and I love many of her books. I had high expectations for this one since so many people talk about it. But I was literally so taken aback with how boring and dull I've found it. Also slightly ephemeral, elusive and confusing. Maybe someday I will try to read it again and like it, I hope. For now, I will read something else.
