Based on the plot of this book I can say with certainly that Grady Hendrix hasn't sold his soul. The man knows how to write books that go by unnaturally fast and are equal parts gruesome, funny and touching. This is one of his best.

1 star for the Dolly Parton thing alone!!

I'm not sure if this was truly boring and slow or if I just can't focus on anything at the moment but it was just sooo average. Grady Hendrix I am disappointed how can you let me down like this

I've never been into metal (except maybe some early Metallica) so much of the nuances of this went way over my head, but it was still an enjoyable read. Rather dark and angst-y and frantic - much like metal, one would say - I was expecting a bit more funny from a Hendrix book. Funny it was not. And it wasn't particularly fun. But it was entertaining. If you are or were a metal-head, this one drops metal references like Ready Player One drops 80s references.

A lot of fun, very metal, with some genuine scares as well. The best Hendrix book I've read yet.

Ahhhh finally caught up on Hendrix's books!!

I regret putting this one off for so long!! I really liked, despite it being light on the horror for me. If you are like me, and thought oh god this will have a lot of song lyrics and stiff thrown in...you aren't wrong. BUT the audiobook narrator does a really great job with them and most importantly...DOES NOT SING THEM. They are just spoken more rhythmically, which is perfect because any singing in audiobooks is almost a 100% guaranteed way to get me to put it down and never come back.

I wouldn't recommend this one if you want a more horror forward book or if you don't really like metal or rock music. But otherwise, I would say to give it a listen!!

I like Grady's books but this is lower on my personal rankings of his books.

halfway through, I was a little confused but OMG at all the Dolly Parton songs. Yes, I love "I'll oilwells love you".
